Cholesterol-lowering drugs have done little to prevent heart attack and stroke, but this new drug appears to not only target a completely different pathway but also to potentially prevent the occurrence of ischemic events in the heart and brain. Scientists at the Cleveland Clinic have come up with a new drug that targets the gut microbes of patients at high risk of heart attack and stroke and has nothing to do with cholesterol.
